Despite the common misconception of the prosperity of Africa, emperor Mansa Musa brought the Mali Empire to a state of wealth and power along with connections to Islam.
Mansa Musa was an emperor in the fourteenth century of the Mali Empire. Mansa Musa was best know for his hajj (travel) to the holy city of Mecca in 1324, along with all of the riches that came with his travel. Must was the first African emperor to make the long distance trip that stretched over 400 miles. However, the great works of Mansa Musa are best know for the affects he had Islam on his empire during his 25 year rule.

In 1312 Mansa became emperor after the death of Abu-Kabr II. Mansa had a lot of knowledge about Arabic and was often known as a Muslim traditionalist. He was very loyal to his religion and was a great emperor when it came to change and prosper in the Mali Empire and throughout Islam. Mansa brought the Mali Empire out of political instability and expanded the empire. Mansa Musa was also known as one of the richest people to ever live and was very generous.
